Dear fellow Debaters, Friends and Guests,
Debating is more than just an exchange of fancy arguments. Debating is the battle of the words. Debating is our contribution to democratic freedom, cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
In the knowledge of this responsibilty, it is an honour for the Jacobs University Debating Society to invite every single one of you to our Jacobs Open 2009. We are striving to realize a debating tournament that stands up to our now five years tradition of high class debating competitions at Jacobs University Bremen.
Jacobs Open is going to host again more than 120 Debaters from throughout Europe who compete in BPS style in six rounds to determine the new Bremen Debating champion. To touch the feeling of our democratic tradition, the Bremen Parliament will welcome us for the Grand Final.
But Jacobs Open 2009 is more than just a high-level debating competition: It will surprise its guests with a special Saturday afternoon event. Besides, Bremen will of course maintain its reputation for its remarkable social events and parties. Bremen and Becks are inseperably connected.
In the name of Jacobs University Debating Society, I cordially invite you to join us in Bremen. Let us all take up our passion: Let's debate for our democratic responsibility, for cultural exchange, and, not last, for so much fun to come.

[08-06-01] Jacobs Open 2009 Convenor Elected
The Jacobs University Bremen Debating Society elected a new Convenor to lead the organizational efforts toward the Jacobs Open 2009. In a non-competitive election, candidate and Society President Oliver Haardt was reassured the trust of the Society to make Jacobs Open 2009 a success.
Faces of IUB Open
Jens Fischer
Jens Fischer is one of the most well reputed debaters and adjudicators on the German and European circuits. A Chief Adjudicator of the IUB Open 2006 and Deputy Chief Adjudicator of the IUB Open 2005, he is a founding member of the Berlin Debating Union, and was their CA from 2002 to 2005. Most famously, Jens also was the CA of Euros 2006 in the German capital.
